Ithaca, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team were in action today at Ithaca College. The match was played indoors at the Glazer Arena on Ithaca's campus. The hawks collected a hard won 5-4 victory. The Hawks split with the host bombers 3-3 in singles play and won 2 doubles matches to win the day's contest by a point.
"After a 4 1/2-hour battle, we came out on top 5-4" said Coach Rob Bruley. "Some excellent play in all three doubles matches, set us up 2-1 going into singles. Our singles matches showed very strong play from Onalee Batcheller, Isabel van der Veen, and Loretta Donovan. Van der Veen clinched the match 5-4. I was extremely pleased with the way we performed in the double's lineup and even more in singles against an extremely strong Ithaca singles lineup. This performance should put us in great shape as we start the count down to the conference championships."
The Hawks will return on Wednesday, April 5 for a match at Stevens Institute of Technology against the host Ducks in Hoboken, NJ.
