New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team were in action for a pair of matches at home. This weekend's competition is the first at home for the Hawks in 2023. They last played at the North Tennis Courts on September 30 of last year.
Friday's match featured NCAA Division two St. Thomas Aquinas. The hawks battled unseasonably cold temperatures in a 9-0 defeat against the visiting Spartans. "We played a competitive match against a very strong Div II international team", said Coach Rob Bruley. "I was very pleased with the way our doubles teams stayed aggressive with 3rd doubles nearly pulling out a victory going down 8-6."

Saturday afternoon's match was against Rochester Institute of Technology from the Liberty League. The Hawks rebounded quickly from Friday evening's loss with a 7-2 victory over the visiting Tigers.
"A good comeback after a tough match yesterday," said coach Rob Bruley. "All three doubles teams had a good start with two and three doubles teams bringing home a point each and our number one team losing a tough match to a tie breaker. We really showed our strength in our singles matches winning five out of the six matches."
The Hawks will return on Saturday, April 15 when they host the New Paltz Tournament and Senior Day. Next weekend's matches will feature three visiting teams from Hartwick College, SUNY Farmingdale, and SUNY Cortland. The first match will commence at 10 a.m.
