New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz dropped its doubleheader against NYU Saturday on Loren Campbell Field, 11-2 and 9-5, respectively.
The Hawks (9-21 overall, 0-12 SUNYAC) gave up a six-spot in the first in game one and managed seven hits against NYU, not enough to work out of the early hole.
James Trink was given the loss, dropping to 1-5 on the season.
Tommy Kreider highlighted the game for SUNY New Paltz with the sophomore hitting 2-for-4 with two run and a stolen base.
Justin Harvey followed, adding a double and an RBI.
Game two went back-and-forth, seeing three different lead changes with the score tied three times.
Xaiver Zykoff earned the game two start after collecting his first career save Friday against the Violets. He had trouble finding his location early, as he loaded the bases with one out. A hit-by-pitch plated the first run, but the freshman worked out the jam forcing a groundout double play to end the threat and yielded just a run.
The Hawks knotted the score in the bottom of the second.
Dillon Ristano got the inning started with a lead-off single before getting himself into scoring position on a stolen base.
Fabian Apicella got on with a base hit to left before a sacrifice bunt by
Alex Oulette brought Ristano home.

NYU re-took the advantage in the third and held onto a 3-1 leading heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Fabian Apicella hit a one-out single to get the offense started, then stole second. Oulette reached on a base hit with
Justin Ortiz plating Apicella on a ground out. Oulette moved over on a wild pitch and Kreider followed with a walk to put runners on the corners, setting the table for
Michael Boccarossa. Boccarosas came in clutch, rocketing a double to left center, scoring both Kreider and Oulette to give his team a 4-3 lead.
The Violets tied the score once more with a run in the top of the eighth, but SUNY New Paltz answered in the bottom half. Ristano hit a one-out single to get the frame started with
Pierson McGinnis pinch-running.
Nick Harvey ripped a single into left and McGinnis advanced to third. Apicella then came up with a perfectly placed bunt that allowed McGinnis to beat the throw home and push the Hawks up, 5-4.
Like it had Friday, SUNY New Paltz needed just three outs to close out a win. However, miscues in the field ignited the Violets for a rally. A walk opened up the top half and an error on a hard chopper at third allowed two on with no outs. Another grounder to the left side of the infield was muffed at short, plating the game-tying run. The flood gates opened, as the Hawks loaded the bases and couldn't get out of the inning. A sacrifice fly brought the go-ahead run home, then a passed ball gave NYU an insurance run. SUNY New Paltz allowed two more runners across before
Nick Harvey closed out on a fielder's choice. SUNY New Paltz couldn't stem another comeback in the final half inning and fell, 9-5.
Apicella led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Ristano followed, hitting 2-for-4 with a run with Oulette finishing 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
SUNY New Paltz is back in action Tuesday on the road for another non-conference matchup against Ramapo College starting at 3:30 p.m.
