Binghamton, NY — For the 21st straight season, the State University of New York at New Paltz are headed to the SUNYAC Championship game.
The top seeded Hawks handled a depleted No. 4 seeded Geneseo team in the semifinal round of the conference tournament, 5-0 advancing on to the title game Saturday.
The Knights omitted third doubles and sixth singles, not having enough to field a team with the Hawks automatically up after taking care of first and second doubles, 8-4, 8-2, respectively.
Tatiana Barnett ultimately clinched the win as she defeated Geneseo's 6-1, 6-0 at fourth singles.
SUNY New Paltz led at every other singles matchup before officially putting the win away.
The Hawks will face No. 2 seeded Oneonta in a re-match of last year's championship with the Red Dragons earning a 5-3 win over Cortland in the other semifinal contest.
Oneonta earned a tight 5-4 win over the Hawks in 2022 to end a three-year run for SUNY New Paltz with the Hawks looking to avenge last season's defeat. The two rival programs are set to face off the title game at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
