The State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team released its 2023-24 schedule Thursday.
Seventh year coach
Keith Kenney and his Hawks face a 25-game schedule which includes 18 grueling SUNYAC contests, along with seven challenging non-conference matchups. Eleven games find SUNY New Paltz facing teams that participated in postseason play last season.
The Hawks start their 2023-24 season on the road. They open Nov. 10 at Skidmore College. Last season SUNY New Paltz lost to the Thoroughbreds in a tight matchup, 72-76. November 14 sees the Hawks at Kings Point facing the United State Merchant Marine Academy Privateers, a team they defeated 92-65 a year ago.
Next up will be the Hudson Valley Tournament Nov. 17-18. SUNY New Paltz opens the tournament against rival Vassar College at Mt. St. Mary's Kaplan Gymnasium. The next night the Hawks will host Bard College in the tourney wrap-up, which is also the inaugural home game for the 2023-24 Hawks. In 2022-23, the Brewers downed SUNY New Paltz, 85-76 while the Hawks dispatched the Raptors, 92-65.

The long SUNYAC season begins the following weekend, with SUNY New Paltz away at SUNY Geneseo Dec. 1 and at SUNY Brockport Dec. 2. The Hawks split the season series with the Knights last season, while losing both season games to the regionally ranked Golden Eagles, the eventual SUNYAC finalist.
The Hawks return home to close out the 2023 portion of the schedule, hosting CUNY John Jay Dec. 5, Misericordia University Dec. 8 and CUNY Hunter College Dec. 9. All three opponents saw postseason action in 2022-23.
Two key SUNYAC games open the 2024 portion of the season. The Hawks entertain SUNY Oneonta Jan. 6; last season SUNY New Paltz split with the Red Dragons, then decisively beat them in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament.
Three days later, on Jan. 9, the Hawks host the other Red Dragons — of SUNY Cortland; SUNY New Paltz split the season series with the regionally ranked Red Dragons a year ago.
The team then travels to Western New York to take on SUNY Fredonia and Buffalo State Jan. 12-13. Last season, the Hawks won the season series against both the Blue Devils and Bengals.
A three-game home stand follows, with SUNY New Paltz hosting top ranked SUNY Oswego on Jan. 16, then entertaining SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Plattsburgh Jan. 19-20. The NCAA DIII Elite 8 Lakers won the season series against the Hawks last season then earned another win for the second straight season in the SUNYAC semifinal. Potsdam's Bears split last season's series, while Plattsburgh's Cardinals lost both season matchups to the Hawks.
A short road trip to SUNY Cortland to conclude their season series is scheduled for Jan. 23. Two home contests to finish out the series with the Bengals and Blue Devils follow Jan. 26-27. Another quick road trip Jan. 30 sees the Hawks at SUNY Oswego.
The final home stand for SUNY New Paltz is Feb. 2-3 as it hosts SUNY Brockport and SUNY Geneseo to close out those season series.
The Hawks' final three games are all on the road, wrapping up their season series with SUNY Oneonta Feb. 10, then up to the North Country to conclude their regular season against SUNY Plattsburgh Feb. 16 and SUNY Potsdam Feb. 17.
The SUNYAC Tournament is slated to begin Feb. 20, with the semifinal and final round set for Feb. 23-24.
