West Point, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team was on the road today for their first SUNYAC match of the 2023-2024 season against SUNY Oneonta. Today's match was relocated to the indoor courts at the United States Military Academy on account of the weather. The defending conference champion Hawks won their first league match 9-0.
"Really strong performance from our 1&2 doubles teams set the tone for this match. This followed a grinding performance from Tatiana Barnett and Nina Genzone bringing home the point at 3rd doubles. Our singles play was very convincing with NP winning all 6 singles matches and seeing Loretta Donovan grind out a tough 6-4 6-4 win at #5 singles. This was our first dual match of the season, and we are slowly getting into the pace of playing matches again. We are all looking forward to our next two conference games at the weekend and will be looking to build on a solid performance from this evening's match.," said Coach Rob Bruley.
The Hawks will return on September 15, when they travel to SUNY Oswego for their second SUNYAC match of the season. The matches will commence at 3:00 PM.
