Saratoga Springs, NY - The State University of New York at New Paltz took the trip upstate to face the Skidmore Thoroughbreds. The Hawks had a stellar game, defeating the home team 4-0.
The Hawks were quick to strike in the first half, their first shot on the net being in the second minute. Gabriel Cruz was able to get free off a turnover and scored unassisted from the far left wing, getting SUNY New Paltz their first goal of the game in the eighth minute. The following eight shot attempts were all from the Hawks. Brandon Davenport was eventually able to shoot from the top of the box and connect with the back of the net about 19 yards out, putting the Hawks up 2-0 in the 30th minute. Skidmore attempted to respond but could not follow through on their shot opportunities, and the half ended with SUNY New Paltz up 2-0.
SUNY New Paltz was able to continue the momentum built in the first half into the second. Following a shot attempt, Owen McGarrity was able to get a head on a ball played into the box by Samuel Snider, giving the Hawks a 3-0 lead and McGarrity his third goal of the season. The next 20 minutes of play would happen on both teams' attacking third of the field, with a combined eight shot attempts between the competitors. In the 77th minute, Brandon Davenport found Joseph DiPreta at the top of the box, where DiPreta one-touched the ball in. The score was now 4-0. Skidmore would not have another shot attempt the entire game, and the Hawks were victorious in the match. Christian Micheli ended with four saves before being subbed in the 81st minute by Joe Washington.
This game concluded SUNY New Paltz's non-league play, and the Hawks will jump into SUNYAC play on Wednesday, going on the road to face SUNY Oneonta at 4 p.m.
