Brockport, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz entered SUNYAC play Saturday, going on the road to earn a 3-1 win over hosting SUNY Brockport.
The Hawks controlled the game, as they out-shot the Golden Eagles, 16-8, including 9-4 in shots on target, while totaling 17 penalty corners to Brockport's eight.
After a scoreless opening 15 minutes,
Rachel Tama got the offense started just a minute into the second quarter, putting away a goal off an assist by
Hannah Ackerman. SUNY New Paltz added on one minute later off a penalty corner with Tama again scoring for the Hawks with
Miranda Britton on the assist on the insert.
In the 27th minute, Britton scored her second, putting in the rebound off an initial shot by
Hannah Ackerman to cap the scoring for her team.
The Golden Eagles found the back of the cage in the third quarter, capitalizing off four-consecutive penalty corners, but SUNY New Paltz's defense remained firm from that point forward and closed out on the win.
Tama led the team with six shots, two of which were on goal, followed by Ackerman, Britton and
Amanda Quenneville each with three.
Gail Comiskey finished with three saves in the win.
The Hawks are on short rest as they resume play Tuesday, going on the road to face Kean at 7:30 p.m.
