Troy, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team was on the road this evening against the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from the Liberty League. The Hawks lost their first match of the season to the host Engineers 9-0.
"A slightly lopsided score line did really reflect how competitive the match was. Against a very strong RPI team. Our #1 doubles team went down in a tight match losing in a tie breaker and our #2 doubles team with freshman Olivia Kunz filling in for the injured Isabel van der Veen really but up strong resistance losing 4-8. In singles play the stand out match was #1 Justine Stanejko going down 6-4, 6-4 against one of the strongest players in the region. I was very pleased the way we battled and competed which hopefully will make us stronger in our remaining fall matches. We carry on this Friday against last years Liberty league champions Skidmore," said Coach Rob Bruley.
The Hawks will return on September 29, when they face off against their second Liberty League opponent of the season in the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College. The matches will commence at 3:00 PM at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center in Saratoga Springs, NY.
