Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly conference winners Monday with Hawks senior guard/forward
Brianna Fitzgerald earning the honor for the third time this season.
Fitzgerald, who notches her sixth career SUNYAC player of the week recognition after earning three during last year's Player of the Year campaign, was named Monday after leading her team to a 3-0 week including a huge road win over SUNY Cortland to even the series.
The Dix Hills, NY native continued to step up in big moments, as she had one of her best games of the season in a pivotal matchup against the Red Dragons as she was the catalyst in an 80-72 win to re-take the top spot in the SUNYAC. She registered her sixth double-double of the season after dropping a game-high 28 points and pulling down a career-high 15 rebounds in 39 minutes, while adding three assists and three steals with a block in the victory.
On the weekend, she was efficient from the floor and totaled 11 and 15 points in 18 and 19 minutes, respectively, in 40-point wins over Buffalo State and Fredonia. Against the Bengals Friday, Fitzgerald shot 5-for-9 from the field, while adding five rebounds, four assists, a steal and two blocks in the 85-45 victory. The following day, she hit 5-for-9 from the floor once again and added four rebounds, three assists and two steals to help in the 88-48 win over the Blue Devils to help her team to two regular season series sweeps.
Through the week's three-game slate, Fitzgerald averaged 18 points, 8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2 steals and a block in 25.3 minutes per game.
SUNY New Paltz (15-3 overall, 10-1 SUNYAC) returns to action Tuesday, going on the road to face Oswego at 5:30 p.m., looking to claim yet another SUNYAC series victory.
