New Paltz, NY — An explosive second half galvanized the State University of New York New Paltz Saturday on North Turf Field to an eventual, 8-0 rout of visiting Oswego.
The Hawks honored their five graduating senior members prior to the game in
Hannah Ackerman,
Morgan Woolley,
Amanda Quenneville,
Emily McGovern and
Emily Brown, and the team showed out in their last regular season Saturday home contest of the year.
Rachel Tama got SUNY New Paltz on the board three minutes into the first quarter, relentlessly fighting in front of cage, muscling the ball into the back of the net for the game's first goal.
The Hawks tallied five shots in the first quarter and three in the second but couldn't generate more offense for the rest of the half. They regrouped in the second and the flood gates began to open after
Miranda Britton scored back-to-back to create a 3-0 cushion midway through the third quarter.
The fourth was a dominant effort for SUNY New Paltz as it added five more courtesy of Tama and Quenneville, which helped secured the comfortable 8-0 shutout win.
The Hawks out-shot the Lakers, 28-1 in the game, including 23-1 in shots on target, while generating 12 penalty corners to the visitors none. Coach
Shanna Szablinski also was able to get all her active players on the field in the contest.

Tama was the catalyst in the rout, totaling nine points on four goals and an assist, adding to her team-leading total of 24 goals and 58 points. Following her performance Saturday, Tama puts herself four away from tying the single-season goal mark of 28 set by Danielle Conklin in 2013 and is 12 points shy of tying the single-season record also set by Conklin during the 2013 season. Tama's 103 career points is one shy of the all-time record set by 2017 alumna Kayla McKeveny, while Tama is five goals away from breaking the all-time program record set by 2018 alumna Justine O'Reilly.
Britton and Quenneville followed offensively with two goals apiece, while Ackerman had two assists and Woolley added one.
Gail Comiskey earned the start and made one stop with Madison Orisini coming in to play the last seven-plus minutes to help solidify the shutout.
SUNY New Paltz has a week-long break until its next matchup, going on the road to face No. 5 Christopher Newport at 11 a.m. in Newport News, VA.
