SUNY New Paltz Men's Soccer Comes Up Short Against Oswego

Hawks fall 2-0 against the Lakers in final regular season match

Oswego, NY — In its last game of the regular season, the State University of New York New Paltz fell to the Oswego Lakers, 2-0.

The loss dropped the Hawks' overall record to 9-7-1, and 5-3-1 in conference play, and as SUNY New Paltz heads into the postseason, it is seeded fifth out of six teams and it will play the fourth-seeded team in the quarterfinal round.

Against the Lakers, the Hawks could not generate any set pieces in the first half, and only got two shots off. Oswego was able to produce six shots in the first with one finding the back of the net.

In the 27th minute, after a mis-communicated pass by SUNY New Paltz, Oswego got past the Hawks' backline and netted a shot to take the lead.

For the remainder of the first, the visitors could not respond to the goal, and only attempted one shot before halftime.

In the second half, SUNY New Paltz increased its opportunities on net, and out-shot the Lakers 11-6. Despite having the same amount of on attempts on frame as Oswego, SUNY New Paltz could not put the ball in the back of the net, as all of their attempts fell short.

With just more than five minutes remaining, the Lakers struck again. An Oswego forward tore away on a fast break towards the Hawks net, and placed a shot into the bottom left corner. The final goal came with little time remaining, and SUNY New Paltz had no time to respond, as the match concluded 2-0 in the Lakers' favor.

Colin Brant, Brian Boylan, Alberto Molina, Kieran Weber and Brian Lizama all tallied one shot on net for the Hawks. Christian Micheli played the entire 90 minutes in net and secured three saves.

The Hawks play their first postseason match Nov. 2, as they head to SUNY Plattsburgh to face the No. 4 seeded Cardinals at 1 p.m.
