Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz women's soccer secured a spot in the SUNYAC playoff bracket for the fourth consecutive season.
The 2024 postseason appearance marks the first time in program history the Hawks (13-2-2 overall, 8-0-1 SUNYAC) have entered as the No. 1 team in the playoff bracket after having edged out reigning SUNYAC champion Cortland.
SUNY New Paltz earned a bye week with its top seeding and is set to face the winner of the quarterfinal match between the No. 4 seeded Fredonia Blue Devils (10-7, 5-4) and the No. 5 seeded Buffalo State Bengals (8-9, 5-4). The quarterfinal round between the Blue Devils and the Bengals is set for Nov. 2 at noon.
On Oct. 5, SUNY New Paltz hosted Fredonia for its Green Out Game. The Hawks netted a late first-half goal against the Blue Devils and solidified the victory in the 53rd minute with a second goal to shutout Fredonia, 2-0.
SUNY New Paltz traveled North Oct. 19 to face the Bengals in Buffalo, and it secured a comeback victory against the hosts after being down 1-0 early in the second half.
Rachel Eisert netted the tying goal in the 56th minute, followed by two more second-half goals, which secured the Hawks the 3-1 victory.
On the opposite side of the bracket, No. 3 seeded Oswego will face No. 6 seeded Oneonta on Nov. 2 at noon. The winner between the two would advance to face No. 2 seeded Cortland on Nov. 6 at 1 p.m.
The Hawks will host the semifinal match on Nov. 6. Kickoff against the quarterfinal winner is at 1 p.m.
