Binghamton, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz swept Fredonia State Thursday putting the Hawks at a 4-0 record overall this season. The Hawks hope to keep the momentum running this weekend in Binghamton to set them up for a higher seed in the conference, heading into the spring season.
Doubles Matches: The unbreakable duo of
Justine Stanejko and
Isabel van der Veen does it again, only letting up one game to their opponents and adding another win to their collum with a 6-1 set.
Sydney Sladicka and
Angelica Gabriel swept their match winning in a perfect 6-0 set.
Olivia Kunz and
Nina Genzone added another win to the Hawks repertoire, defeating their opponents 6-2.
Singles Matches: In addition to the doubles matches, the Hawks swept the singles. Stanejko cleaned up in a quick 6-0 set followed by another 6-0 set, not letting up a game. Sladicka won her match by going 6-1 in both of her sets. Van der Veen joined Stanejko with a clean 6-0 in both of her sets to secure the win.
Amirah Alston went 6-3 in her first set. Alston held off the Blue Devil, finishing the second set with a victorious 6-2. Kunz joined her teammates adding to the win, with a 6-1 first set and a 6-0 sweep in the second set. Gabriel went 6-0 in her first set and 6-2 in her second securing the win.
Coach Rob Burley felt that today's match was "A convincing win against Fredonia in both doubles and singles play. Really pleased by the way everyone approached the match in a confident frame of mind. This should set us up nicely for the next two days of conference competition."
The Hawks return to the court in Binghamton Friday where they will take on the Oswego State Lakers.
