New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz rolled to its fourth-straight win Wednesday night with a 3-0 sweep of visiting Misericordia (25-18, 25-18, 25-22).
The Hawks (13-7 overall) trailed by one at 8-7 but scored seven of the next nine points to take a 14-10 lead with the offense spread around, as
AJ Fitzgerald,
Krish Jain,
Pat Wing and
Christopher Larkin all registering kills in the stretch.
SUNY New Paltz never trailed from that point forward and put the first set away after finishing with three-straight points after the Cougars cut the lead to 22-18. A block by Larkin and Jain helped the Hawks to set point before a swing from Jain solidified the 1-0 lead.

Mike Handell on an assist from
Matt Marusza gave the Hawks an 18-11 lead in the second set. Misericordia worked back to get as close as 23-18, but a block from Wing and Handell got the team to set point before an attacking error sealed the set at 25-18.
SUNY New Paltz held a six-point lead in the third thanks to a block by Handell and Larkin. The Hawks never relinquished control, but the Cougars worked their way back to get within one at 22-21 after going on a 5-1 run following a kill from Wing that gave SUNY New Paltz a five-point lead. Wing ended the stretch with a kill off an assist from Marusza. Lark and Handell once again own the middle of the net as they came up with another double block, this time leading to match point. Following a serving error, Larkin put an end to the match with a kill off an assist from Marusza.

SUNY New Paltz enjoyed a productive offensive night, hitting .425 on the night while totaling 43 kills and 59 points in the three-set win. Wing led the way with 19 kills on 32 attempts to hit an impressive, .500 on the match, while adding two assists, one ace, two blocks and five digs.
Fitzgerald and Jain followed with eight kills apiece with Fitzgerald totaling a team-high seven. Handell finished with career-high six total blocks to lead the team defensively. Marusza totaled 41 assists with an ace to facilitate the offense.
SUNY New Paltz is back in action Friday night for its first United Volleyball Conference matchup of the season, facing visiting MIT in Elting Gym at 7 p.m.
