NEW PALTZ, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz swim teams were at home in Elting pool for their final home contest of the season. The Hawks played host to SUNY Oneonta for a SUNYAC dual meet. The Hawks swept the team competition claiming first place for the men and the women by scores 116-86 and 111-90 respectively. Today's meet was also senior day for the Hawks, and they recognized their six seniors prior to the start of the meet.
The men finished first in the 400-yard medley relay (Jack Wirth, Venn Engstrom, Steven Macaluso, and Jack Samko) in a time of 3:42.12. Jack Wirth finished second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:04.51. The Hawks swept the 1000-yard freestyle with Antonio Vavalle, Brian LaRossa, and Oliver Trzcinski finishing first, second, and third respectively. Alex Gorzula finished second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:50.76. Jack Samko finished first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.21. Venn Engstrom finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.41. Luke Hoyt finished first in the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:37.92. Steven Macaluso finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.72. Antonio Vavalle finished first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:58.44. Brian LaRossa followed Vavalle in second with a time of 5:29.27. Mason Kennedy and Alex Gorzula finished first and second in the 200-yard breaststroke with times of 2:23.93 and 2:24.54, respectively. The men would also finish second in the 800-yard freestyle relay (Alex Gorzula, Korey Barber, Luke Hoyt, and Antonio Vavalle) in a time of 7:33.38.

The women finished second in the 400-yard medley relay (Sage Vadney, Erin Donovan, Sierra DePry, and Shannon Corr) with a time of 4:26.50. Sage Vadney claimed second place in the 400-yard IM with a time of 5:31.29. Vadney would also claim first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:27.31. The Hawks swept the 1000-yard freestyle with Abigail Dusseault, Kaylee Gallagher, and Ryan Tuomela finishing first, second, and third respectively. Abigail Dusseault would also take first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:40.54. Amanda O'Brien finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:10.29. Shannon Corr took second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.16. Corr would alse finish second in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:49.77. Candella Sandoval took first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:30.56. Sierra DePry finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.66. The women finished second in the 800-yard freestyle relay (Taylor Pazderski, Abigail Dusseault, Amanda O'Brien, and Sierra DePry) with a time of 8:50.62.

The Hawks will return to action on February 21 for day one of the SUNYAC Championships at the Burt Flickinger Aquatic Center at Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY.
