New Paltz, NY — An offensive onslaught was an understatement Friday afternoon for the State University of New York at New Paltz.
The Hawks made program history by batting in 30 runs against visiting Fredonia Friday on Loren Campbell Memorial Field before finalizing a 30-2 seven-inning win to also solidify the biggest margin of victory ever.
The previous record in written history was a 25-7 win against Skidmore in 1977 with the team's most recent 20-run outing coming in 2007 in a 22-6 win over Old Westbury in 2007.
SUNY New Paltz's offense has been clicking all season, but on Friday nearly every person who entered the game got in on the action as 13 different players recorded a hit and 15 different runners scored with the Hawks totaling 27 hits, 11 of which were extra base hits with five different players going yard.
Tommy Kreider led the way as he went 4-for-5 with five runs and an RBI.
Michael Ascanio followed as he went 2-for-3 with two runs and five RBI following a three-run homer in the fourth.
Michael Boccarossa went 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI.
Dillon Ristano and
Fabian Apicella each went 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.
Justin Harvey went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI with a two-run home run coming in the fourth, while
Garrett Grathwohl came in for Harvey at first and went 1-for-2 with a run and three RBI, all coming on a home run in the sixth.

SUNY New Paltz answered a run scored by the Blue Devils in the first with a run scored in the bottom half after Ascanio batted in Kreider who reached on an error.
The Hawks then took the lead in the second, started with a double by Ristano.
Christopher Sais later hit him in on a fielder's choice. Sais scored by
Nick Harvey on an RBI double in the following at-bat before Kreider drove him in on a single to the left side. Kreider capped the scoring as he crossed home on a passed ball to extend the lead to 5-1.
SUNY New Paltz then broke the game open with a 17-run fourth inning. The Hawks batted around the order three times in a prolific frame, as they totaled 15 hits, including home runs by Ascanio,
Anthony Pericolosi,
Nick Harvey and
Justin Harvey.
Holding a 23-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth, SUNY New Paltz reached the 30-run threshold in the stanza.
Chris Thorne scored
Ryan Mackle on an RBI double before being brought home on an RBI double by Pericolosi. Grathwohl then helped cap the offensive night as he blasted a three-run shot to score
Wallace Kirkpatrick,
Nico Batkay and himself to give his team a 30-1 advantage.
The Hawks pitching also performed well backed by a stout five opening innings by
Xavier Zykoff who earned the win. He improved to 2-0 on the year after giving up just three hits, one earned run, three walks with a career-high eight strikeouts.
Dylan Hayes and
Jeff Lundstedt closed out the game tossing an inning apiece. Hayes held Fredonia hitless, giving up just one walk while striking out two. Lundstedt allowed one hit and no earned runs with one walk in the final inning.
SUNY New Paltz improved to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in the SUNYAC. It concludes its three-game series against the Blue Devils Saturday starting at noon on Loren Campbell Memorial Field.
