SUNY New Paltz Tennis Closes Out Regular Season with Victory

Hawks will ride two match win streak into SUNYAC Championships

Rochester, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team was on the road today for their final regular season match of the season. The Hawks played Rochester Institute of Technology at the Midtown Athletics Club. The Hawks defeated the Tigers 6-3.

"In a match that was moved indoors due to bad weather in Rochester New Paltz left it to our last regular season match to bring out their best tennis of the season. With Onalee Batcheller/Isabel van der Veen winning at #2 doubles New Paltz were down 2-1 going into the 6 singles matches and needing to win 4 of the 6 matches. In singles, we started really strong with Tatiana Barnett bringing home her singles match. She was closely followed by Isabel van der Veen, Amirah Alston, and Loretta Donovan, all of whom won their matches. Justine Stanejko was in a tough battle at #1 singles against a highly ranked regional RIT player and, Justine was playing some of her best singles of year, but she lost 2-0. The remaining match of Onalee Batchellor came down to a 2nd set tie breaker that she won 7-3 to close out a very successful 6-3 New Paltz win.

Congratulations to our 3 graduating seniors Tatiana Barnett, Onalee Batcheller & Loretta Donovan who all wrapped up their regular season senior careers with singles wins. I personally would like to thank them for all their hard work and dedication over their time on our program and I wish them all the best in the future endeavors. We move on to the conference championships on Friday where we hope that all the hard work that we have put in this season will bring our program success," said Coach Rob Bruley

The Hawks will return this Friday, April 26, for the first round of the SUNYAC Tennis Championships. The Hawks as the top seed will played the four seed SUNY Oneonta with a match start time of 1:00 PM. The SUNYAC Championships will be played indoors at the Binghamton Tennis Club in Binghamton, NY.
