Binghamton, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team was on the road today for the first round of the SUNYAC tournament. The Hawks are the defending champions, having won the 2023 SUNYAC tournament. The Hawks enter this year's tournament as the number one seed with a perfect record in conference play. The Hawks played SUNY Oneonta in the first round at the Binghamton Tennis Center. The Hawks defeated the Red Dragons 9-0 to remain unbeaten in SUNYAC play.
"An extremely close match in the doubles. Saw us come through with a 3-0 lead going into the singles. Both one and two doubles really dug deep against very determined Oneonta opposition. Winning both matches 8-6, 8-6. Our number three doubles team of Tatiana Barnett and Nina Genzone, had a comfortable win closing out their doubles match 8-3. With New Paltz only needing to win 2 of the six singles, both Olivia Kunz and Amirah Alston connivingly closed out their matches with Amirah Alston finishing 6-0, 6-0 and Olivia Kunz finishing 6-0, 6-1. This puts New Paltz into the finals tomorrow." said Coach Rob Bruley.
The Hawks will return tomorrow, April 27, when they play SUNY Geneseo for SUNYAC Tennis Championship. The championship match has a start time of 1:00 PM. The SUNYAC Championships are being played indoors at the Binghamton Tennis Club in Binghamton, NY.
