Cortland, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz concluded its 2024 season Saturday against Cortland and lost, 17-6.
The Hawks (5-10 overall, 1-6 SUNYAC) stayed tight with the Red Dragons through the first 15 minutes as
Ethan Scully tied the score at ones on a feed from
Owen Craker. After Cortland answered,
Deacon Hill tied the game following a good clear and save by
Ryan Steinhart.
The Red Dragons took a 3-2 lead by quarter's end, which started a 5-0 run that allowed Cortland took a 7-2 lead at halftime before out-scoring the Hawks 4-1 in the third quarter to go up 11-3 entering the fourth.
Thomas Armetta and
James Flanagan scored back-to-back to cut the score to 10 with five minutes to play in the fourth with
Zach Schmidt capping the offense to solidify the 17-6 outcome.
Flanagan led the team with one goal and two assists, with
Anthony Senecal, Scully, Armetta, Schmidt and Hill each tallying a goal. Steinhart led the team defensively, makng 23 saves.
