SUNY New Paltz Men’s and Women’s Basketball set to Compete at D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, NV — For the first time both the men's and women's basketball programs at the State University of New York New Paltz will head west to compete at the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas this December.

D3hoops.com officially released the schedule for both the men and women Tuesday. To read the official release, click here.

Both the men and women are coming off SUNYAC titles in 2024 with the men's program touting their first ever SUNYAC championship, while the women won their seventh and sixth title in the last eight seasons.

On the women's side, SUNY New Paltz will tip-off the tournament on Saturday, Dec. 28 against Cal Lutheran at 2 p.m. (pacific standard time). The matchup will be a first between the two programs. The Regals finished last season 19-7 overall and 13-3 within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), playing a tough non-league schedule facing two top-16 programs early in the year in Trinity (TX) and Hardin-Simmons University. They went on to compete for a SCIAC title against eventual champion, Occidental which lost in the first round against the same Hardin-Simmons team that defeated the Cowboys earlier in the year.

After having a day's rest, the Hawks resume play Monday, Dec. 30 against Colorado College at 2 p.m. PST. Also, a first-time matchup between the two teams, the Tigers are coming off a 20-8 campaign while finishing the regular season 12-4 within the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). Colorado College also made their respective conference championship game, falling in a six-point contest against Trinity (TX) which, like SUNY New Paltz, made a second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament where they too fell to Hardin-Simmons University, which were ranked No. 10 at the time.

On the men's side, SUNY New Paltz opens up the tournament Sunday, Dec. 29 against Hardin-Simmons at 2 p.m. PCT before taking on Redlands the following day (Monday, Dec. 30) for a 6 p.m. PCT tip-off.

The Cowboys went 19-7 overall and 12-4 in the American Southwest Conference (ASC) last season, falling to Mary Hardin-Baylor in the semifinal round. Redlands, meanwhile, finished 16-9 overall and 8-8 within the SCIAC, having top-25 victories over Middlebury, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Williams College. However, tough losses against a ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, a receiving votes Pomona-Pitzer, Chapman, University of La Verne and a No. 13 Cal Lutheran kept the Bulldogs out of the SCIAC postseason tournament.

The full 2024-25 slate for the Hawks men's and women's basketball program's will be released later this summer.
