Hoboken, NJ – The State University of New York New Paltz men's soccer program beat Stevens 1-0 in a shutout Wednesday night. The Hawks earn their second straight win to put them at 3-4 overall this season.
In a scoreless first half, the Hawks earned a total six corner kicks, yet could not create any solid set pieces from the opportunities.
Brian Boylan,
Alberto Molina,
Ryan Zindler, and
Owen McGarrity each recorded one shot for the orange and blue, but all came up short.
Molina opened the second half with another shot on goal, trying to sneak the ball into the bottom right but was saved by the Ducks goalie. Despite having two corner kick opportunities, the Hawks did not finish either, until an underclassman duo came through.
In the 78th minute,
Dom Pineda found teammate
Brandon Dhanoolal upfield, and passed through to the forward. Dhanoolal connected with the back of the net, and his late-game efforts put the Hawks on the board. Dhanoolal earned his third collegiate goal and scored the only goal of the game. Pineda also recorded his first career assist.
Christian Micheli spent 90 minutes in goal. The incumbent senior keeper made four saves to lock down the win while he earned his second shutout of the season.
The Hawks hope to keep the streak alive Saturday when they host Lehman College at 1 p.m.
