SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey Winning Streak Ends, Falls to No. 16 Bryn Mawr

Hawks suffer first loss of the year after falling, 6-2 to the hosting Owls

Bryn Mawr, PA — The State University of New York New Paltz lost for the first time in 2024 Saturday, coming at the hands of No. 16 Bryn Mawr.

The hosting Owls racked up their fourth-straight ranked win, as the No. 23 Hawks couldn't keep up offensively for the first time all season and fell, 6-2.

Bryn Mawr out-played SUNY New Paltz through the full 60 minutes, generating more shots (28-9), shots on target (20-5) and corners (18-5) with the Owls jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the first quarter with their first goal coming just a minute into action.

The hosts took a 4-0 lead at halftime with neither team finding the back of the net in the third. Bryn Mawr added two more on back-to-back plays in the 54th minute, flexing a 6-0 advantage. The Hawks finally broke through the shutout, as Amanda Quenneville assisted Ashley McGough a minute later to create a 6-1 deficit. Rachel Tama then added one more in the final two minutes for SUNY New Paltz, finalizing the four-goal difference.

Tama led the team with five shots, three of which were on goal. Miranda Britton followed with two, while Hannah Ackerman and McGough each had one look on cage. Gail Comiskey suffered her first loss in net for the Hawks, allowing four goals in 30 minutes while making five stops. Madison Orisini came in for relief in the final half and registered nine saves — a career-high — while allowing two goals.

SUNY New Paltz will look to rebound from the defeat Wednesday when it returns home to host Kean University at 4 p.m. on North Turf Field.
