SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey Soar Past Morrisville in SUNYAC Home Opener

New Paltz, NY – The State University of New York New Paltz defeated the Morrisville Mustangs 12-2 in its SUNYAC home opener Saturday. The Hawks improved to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

SUNY New Paltz's offense wasted no time striking. Rachel Tama scored her 10th goal of the season and first of the day at 2:59 into the game unassisted. The women kept it rolling when Tama assisted teammate Miranda Britton with a goal at 7:13 in the first quarter.

Tama opened the second period with two consecutive unassisted goals, scoring at 16:43 and 19:58, respectively. Morrisville had an opportunity to get on the board off a corner with three minutes left in the second but Morgan Woolley sent the ball flying out of play before the Mustangs had a chance to organize.

Tama opened the second half with two more back-to-back goals. Her first goal was scored five minutes in and then again four minutes later, assisted by Hannah Ackerman

Ashley McGough scored the seventh goal of the game for the Hawks assisted by Maya Okeefe shortly after before freshman Jenna Bidwell scored a minute after, earning her first collegiate goal in the 43rd minute, unassisted.

Morrisville had two more penalty corners before the turn of the quarter but remained scoreless.

McGough scored two goals within 15 seconds of each other to open the fourth quarter. Bidwell sent the ball across the offensive zone to McGough, scoring a minute into the period. She saw another opportunity and capitalized on it seconds later.

Amanda Quenneville added another goal to the board for the Hawks in the 50th minute, assisted by Katie Singleton. McGough put away the final goal of the day for the Hawks less than 60 seconds later, assisted by Ackerman.

Morrisville scored two goals before the end of the fourth, ending the game with five shots total. The Hawks out-shot the Mustangs 28-5 and had nine penalty corner opportunities where Morrisville had four.

In goal for the Blue and Orange was both Gail Comiskey and Madison Orsini. Comiskey spent 20 minutes in goal, making no saves and allowing no goals. Orisini came in for relief and tallied two saves and allowed two goals.

SUNY New Paltz will head on the road next week facing the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers on Wednesday, followed by a conference road trip up to SUNY Oneonta Saturday.
