Potsdam, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz went on the road Wednesday and collected a 5-0 shutout victory over SUNY Potsdam to earn its first SUNYAC victory of the year.
The Hawks (6-2-2 overall, 1-1 SUNYAC) rebounded after a tough 2-0 loss to open up conference play against No. 11 Cortland Saturday with a 5-0 thrashing of the hosting Bears Wednesday to earn their first conference victory of the season.
Brandon Dhanoolal got the offense started for SUNY New Paltz, capitalizing on a pass from freshman midfielder
Owen Joyce to get his team a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute. Senior forward
Colin Brant piled on three minutes later, as he finished on an assist from Joyce and
Kieran Weber.
Ryan Bochenski then capped the first half effort for the Hawks, scoring his third of the year in the 19th minute to secure his team a 3-0 cushion at the break. He managed to get behind a free kick that was initially saved but the senior followed up his own rebound to tally his third of the year.
Weber put the finishing touches on the 5-0 shutout, netting back-to-back goals in the 67th and 71st minutes for his team-leading fourth and fifth goals of the year, respectively.
