New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz remained undefeated in SUNYAC play Friday afternoon after rolling the visiting Mustangs from Morrisville, 9-0.
The Hawks improved to 9-5 overall and 4-0 in the SUNYAC, while Morrisville dropped to 3-8 and 0-3, respectively. The victory for SUNY New Paltz also officially captured hosting duties for the SUNYAC Tournament with the Hawks clinching at least one of two of the top seeds with only No. 3 nationally ranked Salisbury left in conference competition.
With the addition of the Seagulls this fall to the SUNYAC, the conference tournament was changed to back-to-back semifinal and final games Nov. 7-8 with the highest ranked Northeast school playing host to all four postseason teams.
After being held scoreless against the No. 1 team in the country Tuesday morning in a valiant 1-0 loss to Christopher Newport, SUNY New Paltz's offense exploded for a season-high 39 shots and 25 points with seven of the nine goals scored assisted.
Maya O'Keefe got the offense started nearly seven minutes into the game, scoring off a corner.
Ashley McGough doubled the lead six minutes later, scoring on a penalty stroke as she placed her shot low far corner for the goal.
Joleigh Kozack then scored her first collegiate goal, positioning herself in the perfect spot to knock in the rebound to an initial shot by
Meghan Gunning early on in the second quarter to push the lead to 3-0.

SUNY New Paltz continued to keep the pressure on the Mustangs with more Hawks adding to the offensive onslaught. Kozack registered another point in the game, as she fed
Jenna Bidwell who scored her first career goal in the 42nd minute.
