Binghamton, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz is heading to the SUNYAC Championship Saturday afternoon at 1p.m. against the winner of the Oswego Cortland semifinal, after sweeping Plattsburgh 5-0 Friday afternoon.
"This post season we picked up where we left off in the regular season dominating in both the doubles matches and singles matches" said SUNY New Paltz coach
Rob Bruley. "We are now awaiting winners of Cortland/Oswego to see who we play in Saturday's final. The team are ready to defend our conference championship and will be approaching the final in a very confident bit not complacent attitude."
Doubles: The Hawks earned three matches today in the doubles category.
Patrycja Filonik and
Olivia Kunz swept their set, winning second doubles 6-0.
Nina Genzone and
Angelica Gabriel won their match 6-1, leading
Justine Stanejko and
Sam Ostrander to earn their match by a 5-2 major decision.
Singles: The Hawks earned five 6-0 sets, earning two matches without letting up a point. Stanejko and
Sydney Sladicka won their singles matched without letting up a single point. Both women swept both of their set's 6-0.
Ostrander played second doubles for the Hawks winning her first set 6-0 and her second 6-1. Filonik won her first set 6-1 and was winning her second 4-1 when a major decision was decided.
Lula Brown-Vann was also winning when her match went unfinished by major decision. Brown-Vann won her first set 6-1 and was winning her second set 4-1 when the match was earned.
Alex Krol played sixth doubles for the Hawks and was winning 1-0 when the match was decided.
The Hawks will be back on the courts Saturday at 1p.m. in Binghamton to face the winner of the Oswego vs. Cortland semifinal.
