SUNY New Paltz Women’s Volleyball Loses Three-Set Match to Stevens

Hawks conclude the regular season with a three-set loss on the road to Ducks

Hoboken, NJ — The State University of New York New Paltz concluded its regular season Friday night on the road against Stevens and lost in three sets, 25-22, 25-17, 25-13.
 
The offense struggled throughout the match, hitting just .029 with 34 total points. Reagan Dyba was the only Hawk to finish in double-digit kills (11) as she paced the offense with 11.5 points, as she added a block and six digs. The next top point-getter was junior middle Lola Konopa with 5.5 points on four kills and three blocks. Kim Braun facilitated the offense as she finished with a team-high 17 assists to go along with a team-high 14 digs.
 
SUNY New Paltz were ahead in the first set after a kill by Konopa from Braun pushed the score to 18-16. A double block by Stevens allowed the hosts to side-out, which resulted in a 4-0 run to regain the lead. The Hawks answered after siding out on a block of their own thanks to Konopa and Dyba. Jordyn Lewis aced on the next point before another block — this time by Konopa and Nora Keating. — pushed SUNY New Paltz ahead, 21-20. The Ducks then closed out, scoring five of the next six points, holding set point at 24-22 before scoring on a kill on the next play to take a 1-0 lead.
 
Stevens took the momentum into the second and led by eight at 18-10 and again at 22-14 never losing control of the stanza to eventually earn a 25-17 win, scoring the last three points of the period finalized by an ace from Ella Boland.
 
An 8-1 run midway through the third set all but sealed the victory, as the Ducks jumped to a commanding, 22-12 lead. After a ball handling error allowed the Hawks to get a point closer, Stevens finished the match with three straight points to earn the sweep.
 
The loss brought SUNY New Paltz's record at 15-13 overall with at least one more match guaranteed, as its 6-3 SUNYAC mark clinched the No. 3 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament with the Hawks hosting No. 6 seed Morrisville in the quarterfinal round in the Hawk Center Tuesday night.
