Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its most recent rankings in the conference's Commissioner's Cup race with the Hawks remaining in second among their 10 league colleagues.
With an average of 7.75 points, the Hawks trailed just conference leader SUNY Cortland (8.93) with Oneonta (6.42), Oswego (6.12), Plattsburgh (5.91), Buffalo State (5.45), Fredonia (4.19), Morrisville (3.50), Canton (3.14) and Potsdam (3.00) following in third through 10th, respectively, after the conclusion of the 2024-25 winter season.
The Commissioner's Cup is based on a point system determined by the 22 different conference sports in all three seasons. A 10-point system is used for each sport wit the first-place team getting 10 points, second getting nine and so on. A team's regular season finish will be added to their postseason finish and divided by two of their final total for that sport. The total number of points that a school accumulates is divided by the number of conference sports it has.
SUNY New Paltz has 15 SUNYAC sponsored sports, which includes men's and women's basketball and men's and women's swimming in the winter.
Both the men's and women's basketball programs earned a spot in the SUNYAC final with the men claiming their first ever regular season title after finishing with a program-best, 14-4 conference mark to earn their first No.1 seed and hosting duties. The women, meanwhile, earned a first-round bye for the fifth consecutive season after finishing 15-3 in the league, only behind Cortland. The Red Dragons went on to claim both men's and women's basketball SUNYAC titles.
The Hawks men's swimming team had a solid SUNYAC Championship, placing fourth overall with Gorzula breaking two team records in the 100- and 200-breaststroke. The women, meanwhile, placed seventh overall.
