Glassboro, NJ — The State University of New York New Paltz returned to the campus of Rowan University a year after playing in its first NCAA regional.
The Hawks struggled in their return to Rowan Softball Field as the hosting Profs shutout SUNY New Paltz in both games, 8-0, 8-0.
SUNY New Paltz tallied just three hits on the day against Rowan, the first coming in the fourth inning of game one by
Maddie Anderson with the Hawks looking at just a 2-0 deficit. The base hit gave SUNY New Paltz runners on first and second with two-outs, but it couldn't take advantage as a strikeout ended the inning.
The 2-0 score remained until the fifth, as the Profs added two more runs started on a throwing error by the Hawks. Rowan then closed the game out with three more runs to earn the mercy-ruled victory.
Leah Gunsett was given the loss after she tossed four innings, yielding four hits, two earned runs and three walks while registering three strikeouts.
The Profs got out to a hot start in game two, taking a 4-0 lead after the first.
Sydney Waldon earned the start and struggled, pitching three innings and allowing six hits, four earned runs and three weeks with three strikeouts.
Rowan scored two runs in the third and runs in the fourth and fifth to again earn a five-inning 8-0 win.
Lauren Parete registered the only two hits in the game for the Hawks.
SUNY New Paltz has a long break before it faces a 10-game slate at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Florida starting March 15 against former SUNYAC rival SUNY Geneseo.
