Bronx, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz picked up its third win of the season in dominating fashion, securing a 19-6 victory on the road over Mount Saint Vincent College Saturday.
The game was tied at threes after the first quarter before the Hawks (3-5 overall) opened up the game in the second quarter.
Ethan Scully gave SUNY New Paltz the lead to start the second, finishing on a feed by
Blake Lyons to push the score to 4-3 with the Hawks never trailing from that point forward.
On an extended possession,
Aiden Duran netted his first of two goals of the day with seven minutes to play in the period with
Anthony Senecal picking up the assist on the play.
Finn Smith added on two minutes later, winning the ball back on the ride before finishing on a dish from fellow freshman
Killian Yombor.
Colin Cleary pushed the Hawks ahead, 7-3 scoring on the other end following a save by SUNY New Paltz freshman goalie
Zach Novak.
The Hawks ended the half strong, scoring two more goals in the final two-plus minutes, as
Michael Plante and Yombor each found the back of the net to fatten the difference to 9-3 at the break. SUNY New Paltz's run continued into the third, scoring six more to extend its run to 12 unanswered for a 15-3 lead entering the fourth. Plante forced a turnover on the ride to start the final quarter with Lyons capitalizing to push the score to 16-3 two minutes into the period.
Noah Reed was one of three Hawks who registered their first career goal in the game. The long-stick midfielder scored off an assist by
Sean Hoolan to push his team's lead to 17-3 with just less than eight minutes to go. Lyons and Scully each netted goals before the Dolphins answered for the first time since the first quarter and added two more in the final two minutes to finalize the 19-6 outcome.
Eleven different Hawks recorded at least one goal in the win, including career firsts by Reed, freshman defenseman Hulede and junior faceoff specialist
Quinn Tucker. Senecal led the way though with five points off three goals and two assists. The senior is just two points shy of the 100-point mark, as he would join just five others to reach the threshold in the program's short six-year tenure.
Tucker finished with a team-high four ground balls and two caused turnovers with a point on his lone goal. Reed added three ground balls and a caused turnover with one goal, while Smith finished with three points, two caused turnovers and one ground ball.
Novak earned the win for SUNY New Paltz in 38-plus minutes, totaling seven saves.
Eric Waldron and
Dan Clark came in for relief and the two combined for four stops in 20-plus minutes of action.
SUNY New Paltz is back in action Wednesday, going on the road to face SUNY Poly at 3 p.m.
