Purchase, NY — For the second straight game, the State University of New York New Paltz rolled to a lopsided win, as it collected a 19-3 victory on the road over Manhattanville Saturday.
The Hawks improved to 3-1 overall after earning their third consecutive victory.
Morgan Atwater and
Kaitlyn Shaw highlighted the afternoon as the two reached career milestones, as Atwater surpassed 100 goals, just the eighth Hawk to do so in program history, while Shaw continued to pile onto her resume as she notched her 200th career goal further cementing her status as the best to ever suit up for the orange and blue. She is the only player in program history to surpass 200 career goals.
Lexi Atwater was the team's leader Saturday over the Valiants. She totaled a game-high six goals and two assists for eight points, tied for second-most in single-game program history. JoJo Williams, meanwhile, also recorded a milestone as she put away her first goal as a Hawk since transferring this past winter from SUNY Old Westbury.
SUNY New Paltz owned a running clock four minutes into the second quarter after ending the first with an 8-0 lead. Manhattanville answered soon after, taking advantage of a Shaw yellow card to score on the man-up goal to slim the difference to nine. Shaw earned one back as she finished off a feed from
Samantha DeLucca.
Mia Baldinger added on after a
Morgan Atwater draw control win, as the junior put away a free position attempt.
Lexi Atwater then capped the first half, scoring again with less than two minutes remaining before the break, as
Ava Padilla recorded an assist on the score.
The Valiants scored two in the third to win the quarter, but SUNY New Paltz closed the fourth with five unanswered to solidify the 19-3 win. Williams closed out the game with a free position goal with just more than two minutes to go.
It was a dominant outing for the Hawks. They tallied more shots (34-11), ground balls (25-12), won the turnover battle (17-27), while going 20-for-23 on clears to Manhattanville's 8-for-15 and were successful on 7-of-10 free position opportunities. The Valiants won on the draw, though, 13-12.
Gabriella Tommaso earned the win as she totaled three saves in the opening 22-plus minutes.
Piper Mascaros and
Izzy Miraglia closed the game and each tallied one stop for the Hawks.
SUNY New Paltz will be on short rest, as it heads back home to host Kean University Monday on North Turf Field at 3 p.m.
