Cortland, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz suffered a 30-5 loss on the road to No. 15 Cortland Wednesday.
The Hawks dropped to 4-9 overall and 1-2 in the SUNYAC with the loss. They trailed 13-1 after the first quarter and never came close to the lead from the opening minutes.
The Red Dragons scored 12 straight until
Anthony Senecal netted the first of the day for SUNY New Paltz with about 90 seconds to go in the first period. Senecal scored again in the second quarter and the Hawks looked at a 20-2 hole by halftime.
Senecal and
Finn Smith led SUNY New Paltz with two points apiece, while
Noah Reed totaled a team-high six ground balls.
Zach Novak earned the start and tallied seven saves, while Eric Waldon played the last three quarter and made 12 stops.
Cortland out-shot the Hawks, 68-23, including 49-12 in shots on goal. The Red Dragons also won the turnover battle, 15-23 and picked up more ground balls (53-27) after winning at the faceoff X, 28-11.
SUNY New Paltz will look to quickly regroup, as it returns home to host SUNY Plattsburgh Saturday at 1 p.m.
