New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz picked up a 23-1 win over Morrisville Wednesday on North Turf Field.
The Hawks improved to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC with the victory, bouncing back from their lone conference loss Saturday against first-place Cortland. The Mustangs, meanwhile, dropped to 0-7 and 0-5, respectively.
The game was never close, as SUNY New Paltz jumped out to an 8-0 lead by the end of the first period and earned a running clock with 12 minutes left in the second quarter, as it rolled to its largest margin of victory of the season in about 90 minutes of action.
It was a balanced offensive effort, which highlighted the afternoon as 13 different Hawks registered at least one point with everyone healthy stepping on to contribute in the lopsided victory.
Lexi Atwater totaled a game-high seven points with five goals and two assists, while adding three ground balls, one caused turnover and one draw control.
Kaitlyn Shaw followed with six points on five goals, one assist, two ground balls, two caused turnovers and four draws.

Allison Beattie each had four points, totaling a goal and three assists apiece, while
Francesca Corozzo led all players with five ground balls and
Morgan Woolley totaled a game-high three caused turnovers.
The Hawks out-shot Morrisville, 44-11 in the game including 20-0 after the first quarter. They totaled 33 shots on goal to the Mustangs' two. The hosts also picked up more ground balls (29-12) and draw controls (14-12), while going a perfect 23-for-23 on clears, while Morrisville went 8-for-14.

SUNY New Paltz scored 20 unanswered before the Mustangs scored their first of the afternoon with 8:40 left in the game, capitalizing off a free position attempt.
Tiana Zarcone made sure to answer for the Hawks, scoring her first career goal off a feed by Beattie to re-up her team's 20-point cushion.
Katie Picarello and
Helena Willis each added on three minutes later to solidify the 23-1 outcome.
SUNY New Paltz returns home Saturday, hosting Buffalo State for its final Saturday regular season home game on North Turf Field. The Hawks will honor seniors Corozzo and
Kira Tucker prior to the game, which is scheduled for 11 a.m.
