SUNY New Paltz Field Hockey Collects 4-1 Win Over Ramapo

Hawks string together second-straight victory with 4-1 rout of hosting Roadrunners

Mahwah, NJ — The State University of New York New Paltz collected its second-straight win Saturday after coming away with a convincing 4-1 victory over hosting Ramapo College.

The Hawks improved to 3-2 overall while the Roadrunners dropped to 1-3. The visitors dominated throughout the 60 minutes, out-shooting Ramapo, 36-7, while earning eight penalty corners to the hosts' four. The score would have inflated if not for the efforts of Roadrunners goalie Emily Getz who tallied 21 saves on the afternoon.

SUNY New Paltz put on 10 shots toward cage in the first quarter with Ramapo not finding its first attempt of the afternoon until three minutes left in the second period. Ashley McGough was the first to capitalize for the Hawks, scoring her second of the season just before the quarter ended to give her team the initial lead.

Despite maintaining possession in its offensive half, SUNY New Paltz didn't double its output until the 39th minute in the third quarter thanks to an unassisted goal by Rachel Tama. Ramapo trimmed the Hawks lead in half with a score less than two minutes into the fourth, but Sophia Bronzi and Maya O'Keefe added on in the 51st and 54th minutes, respectively.

Following back-to-back penalty corners, McGough found Tama on the insert. Tama fired, but her attempt was initially saved by Getz. Bronzi was in perfect position and slammed in the rebound for her first goal of the season to push the lead to 3-1 for her team. Two minutes later, O'Keefe added on, finishing on an assist by Elizabeth Austin to solidify the 4-1 outcome.

Tama was the catalyst offensively, tallying 15 shots, 11 on goal with one score. McGough followed with nine shots, five on frame, with a goal. Gail Comiskey played the full 60 minutes in cage and registered six stops in the win.

SUNY New Paltz is back in action Wednesday when it hosts No. 25 nationally ranked Stevens on North Turf Field at 3:30 p.m.
