Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly winners Monday morning, with Hawks senior midfielder Mia Baldinger earning her first career Offensive Player of the Week nod.
Baldinger has been dominating in the midfield for the Hawks, becoming an offensive threat and creating multiple scoring opportunities for her teammates. The Massapequa, NY native helped guide her team to two wins this week against two formidable regional opponents. Taking control of the midfield, Baldinger was able to build up play in both wins and clocked in 90 minutes in both games.
On the road against Farmingdale, she assisted the game-winning goal, saucing up her defender one-on-one to beat her and get end line to send in a dime of a cross to teammate Brooke Kelleher for the goal. She tallied three shots against the Rams with two on goal.
Against RPI, Baldinger received the ball off the Hawks' throw-in, turning into space, making the Engineers pay as she ripped a banger from 35 yards out. The ball went over the goalie's head, hitting the top corner and ignited what was the 2-1 victory for SUNY New Paltz. This became a historical win for the Hawks, as it was their first time beating RPI at home in 20 years. Baldinger led the team in shots with four, two being on goal.
The Hawks are back in action on Sept. 27 when they travel to Cortland for the start of conference play. Kickoff is set to start at 2 p.m. on T. Fred Holloway Field.
