Oswego, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz began SUNYAC play Saturday with a dominating 3-0 road win over Oswego State.
The Hawks improved to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the SUNYAC and controlled the game from the start, out-shooting the hosting Lakers, 39-1 including 23-0 in shots on goal with 17 penalty corners to Oswego's zero.
Rachel Tama got the scoring started, finishing on a rebound from an initial shot by
Miranda Britton which got blocked in front of net midway through the first quarter. SUNY New Paltz doubled up its lead three minutes later, as
Ashley McGough scored an unassisted goal at the 13th minute mark of the period.
The score remained at 2-0 at halftime with the Hawks holding the Lakers without a shot until the final three minutes of the game. SUNY New Paltz rolled from there and added one last insurance goal by Maya O'Keefe, stemming off a penalty corner with Tama picking up the assist on the play.
Tama led the way offensively, a part of two of three goals, while totaling a game-high 17 shots, eight on goal. Britton followed with seven shots, six on goal and an assist with
Meghan Gunning following with six shots.
Gail Comiskey and
Grace Grant split time in goal with neither needing to make a save through 60 minutes.
SUNY New Paltz is back home Wednesday, hosting Union at North Turf Field at 4 p.m.
