New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz is partnering with the University's Office of Veteran & Military Services to host the annual Heinz Ahlmeyer Jr. Game Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. on South Turf Field.
The Heinz Ahlemeyer Jr. Game honors Hawks 1966 graduate and former men's soccer player Heinz Ahlmeyer Jr. who was killed in action in the Vietnam War in 1967. The SUNY New Paltz Athletics, Wellness and Recreation Department named one of its most prestigious awards after Ahlmeyer Jr. who was beloved by all of his teammates and coaches.
Additional information about Heinz Ahlmeyer Jr. can be found here.
Like last year's game, the Hawks Athletics Department will host the game alongside Veteran & Military Services with proceeds collected going toward the support of veteran students and their families at SUNY New Paltz. The University's ROTC color guard will present the colors during the starting lineup with the national anthem sung by a SUNY New Paltz student.
The Hawks will face SUNY Oswego in this year's contest with the hosts looking to avenge last year's loss against the Lakers.
