New Paltz, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz swimming program hosted Oneonta State on Saturday for their final home meet of the season. The team honored
Antonio Vavalle as the lone senior, graduating from the program this may. The women fell to the Red Dragons 115-78, while the men beat them 107.50 to 93.50.
The Women's team of
Jayme Fink,
Erin Donovan,
Alexis Egbert and
Sophia Bucci won the 400-yard medley relay by over nine seconds with a time of 4:31.83. The men had one of the best swims of the meet, touching out Oneonta's A relay by 0.55 of a second.
Deniz Gurcan,
Alex Gorzula,
Jack Samko and
Antonio Vavalle earned first with a time of 3:43.29.
Kiara Walsh took third in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:39.85.
Dylan Esposito touched second for the men, with a time of 11:44.82.
Bucci took second in the women's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:11.36. Vavalle took first for the men with a time of 1:51.40.
Alexis Egbert locked down the 50 coming in over half a second faster than second place. She touched first with a time of 26.87. Samko won the race for the men with a time of 22.86.
Nicholas Ahlborn took third for the Hawks with a time of 23.41.
Erin Donovan (2:27.49) and
Madeleine Tothero (2:52.68) touched second and third for the women in the 200-yard individual medley. Gorzula won the race for the men, touching the pads at 2:01.49. Gurcan earned third with a 2:14.32.
Tothero took the women's 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:41.29.
Hayden Brock won the men's 200 fly with a time of 2:10.03.
Egbert took second in the 100 free with a time of 58:17 and Samko won the men's race with a time of 50.29.
Fink took second in the 200 back with a time of 2:29.91 followed by
Jaina Bischof with a 2:41.37 in fourth.
Max Ceasar (2:21.91) and
Mickey Leach (2:23.92) took third and fourth for the men in the race.
Bucci won the 500 with a time of 5:59.49, followed by Walsh in third with a 6:20.75. Vavalle took the men's race with a time of 5:09.91.
Donovan touched second in the 200 breaststrokes with a time of 2:49.19. Gorzula took first with a time of 2:23.56. Gurcan touched second with a 2:26.75.
The women placed third in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Bischof, Tothero,
Annabella Perez Salvi and Walsh touched with a time of 4:26.43. The men's team of Ahlborn, Leach, Ceasar and Brock touched second with a time of 3:33.13.
The Hawks will use the next couple of weeks to train for the programs final SUNYAC Championship appearance, in Buffalo New York. The Championship style meet will include a prelim session in the morning, followed by an evening finals event and run from Feb. 18
th to Feb 21
