NEW PALTZ, NY – Genevieve Boyle of the SUNY New Paltz women's volleyball team has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Rookie of the Week, becoming the first Hawk in program history to earn a conference weekly honor, as announced by the conference office Monday.
The standout first-year outside hitter turned in an impressive week on the hardwood, helping the Hawks to a 2-1 record while compiling 36 kills, 29 digs, three blocks and six service aces for a total of 43.5 points.
Boyle opened her week with a career-best performance against NJAC favorite Kean University Tuesday evening, erupting for a career-high 20 kills while adding 15 digs in a tightly contested five-set battle. The Hawks nearly completed a reverse sweep against the undefeated Cougars, with Boyle leading the offensive charge throughout the comeback effort.
The Warwick native carried that momentum into Saturday's tri-match inside the Hawk Center, helping SUNY New Paltz secure consecutive straight-set victories over Brooklyn College and Centenary University. Boyle registered nine kills and four digs in the opening sweep against Brooklyn before closing the afternoon with seven kills, 10 digs and two blocks against Centenary.
Boyle and the Hawks return to NJAC action Tuesday, Oct. 13, when they host Rutgers-Camden inside the Hawk Center at 7 p.m.
