NEW PALTZ, NY – Chase Marshall of the SUNY New Paltz men's soccer team has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Rookie of the Week, becoming the first Hawk in program history to earn the distinction, as announced by the conference office Monday.
The standout first-year midfielder showcased his playmaking ability throughout the week, recording two assists to help SUNY New Paltz earn four crucial points in conference play with a road victory over Rutgers-Newark and a draw against unbeaten TCNJ.
Marshall opened the week with a pivotal contribution in Wednesday's 2-1 victory at Rutgers-Newark, assisting Cody Hamilton's game-winning goal to help the Hawks secure three important points in the NJAC standings.
The Bronx native carried that momentum into Saturday's matchup against undefeated TCNJ, playing a key role in SUNY New Paltz's 1-1 draw with the Lions. Marshall delivered the assist on the equalizing goal scored by senior captain and NJAC Defensive Player of the Week Samuel Snider, helping the Hawks earn another valuable conference point.
Beyond his contributions on the scoresheet, Marshall was a consistent presence in the attacking third, navigating through defenders, creating opportunities and helping generate offensive pressure against two conference opponents.
Marshall and the Hawks return to NJAC action Wednesday, Oct. 21, when they visit William Paterson for a 7 p.m. matchup.
