SUNY New Paltz Women’s Basketball Ranked No. 25 in Latest NPI and D3Hoops National Polls

New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz Women's Basketball team was ranked at No. 25 in the latest NCAA Division III National Power Index and d3hoops.com poll, both released Monday night.

The Hawks earned a national ranking for the first time since the 2023-24 season after winning their 12th straight game and improving to 20-2 overall in their regular season home finale in the Hawk Center this past weekend. SUNY New Paltz stayed undefeated at home following wins over Buffalo State and Fredonia and upped its SUNYAC record to 14-1 overall to stay atop the league standings.

The only two losses this season for the Hawks came against No. 1 nationally ranked NYU and an early season meeting on the road to Cortland in overtime — a game where they were without head coach Jamie Seward. The team redeemed that loss against the reigning SUNYAC Champs in the Hawk Center Jan. 31 with a 57-55 victory, handing the No. 20 Red Dragons their third loss on the year.

SUNY New Paltz is looking to sweep its last three regular season series against Oneonta, Potsdam and Plattsburgh after picking up wins against all three opponents at home to combined scores of 207-125. On the year, the Hawks are out-scoring opponents by a 12.6-point margin while averaging about 40 percent shooting from the field, while holding their opposition to 33 percent and forcing 22.2 turnovers per game.

Along with wins over each of their SUNYAC counterparts, SUNY New Paltz also collected non-conference victories over Mount Saint Mary College, Vassar, Ithaca, Mount Saint Vincent, Montclair State and Franklin & Marshall College. Their non-conference opponents, including the Violets, have a combined win-loss record of 80-67 thus far this year.

The Hawks are set to resume play on the road Friday night against the Red Dragons of Oneonta at 5:30 p.m. before concluding the regular season on the road against the Bears and Cardinals, Feb. 20 and 21, respectively.
