New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz rolled to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Nazareth Saturday in the Hawk Center, 25-14, 25-21, 25-14.
The Hawks improved to 18-5 overall after extending their winning streak to 10 games and staying perfect within conference play at 4-0.

Mike Handell prior to the game with all getting the start. The quintet all contributed in the win as they handled the Golden Flyers in virtually every statistical category.
SUNY New Paltz out-hit Nazareth .477-.232, scored more points (52-36), tallied more kills (39-29), aces (10-3), assists (32-28) and digs (20-13) with the Hawks one shy of tying a season-high in aces and the most this season in a three-set match. Their .477 hitting percentage was third best on the year.
Matt Marusza served through a four-point run for SUNY New Paltz in the first set, as he aced before setting a ball to Jain on the next point. An attacking error capped the stretch and pushed the Hawks ahead, 13-7. Shanley then brought his team a 10-point lead, as he then served through a 4-0 stretch. He tallied two aces and then added an assist on a swing by
Geoff Ndoria to push the score 22-12. Ndoria got his team to set point before he got up for a solo block on the next ball in to grasp a 1-0 lead for his team.

The Golden Flyers played a tighter set two and got back in the game with their play at the net. A block on the right-side trimmed SUNY New Paltz's lead to two at 22-20, but Marusza set Ndoria on the next play to allow the hosts to side out. A quick ball to Jain in the middle resulted in set point two plays later.
Michael Spiegel got in on the action, swinging hard from the back row to cement the 25-21 victory.
The third began close until Ndoria helped his team to a 15-9 lead. Kills from Shanley and Jain was then capped by an ace from Ndoria to extend a six-point advantage. SUNY New Paltz scored five of the last six points to complete the sweep. Handell was crucial in the final stretch, serving on kills by Shanley and Ndoria after allowing his team to side-out with a kill of his own. Ndoria brought the Hawks to match point on a spike with the Golden Flyers ending the match on a swing into the net.
Eight different players scored at least three points in the match for SUNY New Paltz with seven different hitters registering at least three kills. Marusza facilized the balanced attack, totaling a game-high 28 assists. Ndoria led the team offensively with 10 kills on 17 attempts (.529) with two aces, two blocks and four digs. Shanley followed with eight kills on 12 attempts (.500) with two assists, two aces and a team-leading seven digs. Jain also had eight kills on 10 attempts (.800), while adding a block. Teplansky registered four kills, an ace and a block, while Handell finished with three kills and a block. Hofer contributed two assists and three digs.
The Hawks are back in action Monday, hosting Edgewood College at 7 p.m. in the Hawk Center.
