Fitzgerald Becomes First Three-Time D3Hoops.com All-American in SUNY New Paltz Women’s Basketball History

Fitzgerald earns third trip to D3Hoops.com third team list, first three-time recipient in program history

New Paltz, NY — D3Hoops.com released its 28th annual All-American list Saturday morning with State University of New York New Paltz women's basketball graduate guard/ forward Brianna Fitzgerald landing on third team for the third time of her decorated career.

Fitzgerald was the first Hawk to earn two D3Hoops.com All-America honors and now becomes the only three-time recipient in program history. She earned third-team honors in both 2023 and 2024 and recently became the first WBCA All-America first-team honoree in SUNY New Paltz history, which was announced Thursday. She was honored with 24 others on the D3Hoops.com All-American list spread across five teams and was also previously named to her second D3Hoops.com Region III Outstanding Player of the Year honor Monday.

The Dix Hills, NY native proved herself once again she is one of the best in the country and the best in program history as she returned to the court after a season-ending injury derailed her fifth year with the majority of her class. In turn, she led an underclassmen heavy team back to the NCAA Tournament and the program's eighth and final SUNYAC title including the winningest season in program history with a program-most 26 wins along the way.

Fitzgerald ended her career with her most well-rounded season to-date, setting career-highs in rebounds (258), steals (96), assists (110) and blocks (37), while scoring 525 points — second most in program history to only herself when she registered 545 following the 2023-24 season. Her numbers also ranked seventh, first, 10th and 11th in SUNY New Paltz women's basketball's single season rebounds, steals, assists and blocks list, respectively.

She led her team in virtually every statistical category including minutes played (930), minutes per game (32.1), field goals made (186), field goals attempted (408), field goal percentage (46%), free throws made (136), free throws attempted (178), points (525), points per game (18.1), rebounds (258), rebounds per game (8.9), assists (110), assists per game (3.8), steals (96), steals per game (3.3), blocks (37) and blocks per game (1.3). She totaled 11 double-doubles this past season and became the 10th player in Division III history, and less than 20 ever in NCAA Basketball across all divisions, male or female, to register a quadruple double — doing so in just three quarters of action — after posting 15 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 11 steals in an 85-41 win over Potsdam Jan. 23

Nationally, Fitzgerald ranked 43rd in points per game, 29th in field goals made, 14th in steals and 24th in steals per game. In two games played in the national tournament, the 5'10 wing averaged 26 points, 13 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals on 47.5 percent shooting (19-40) per game.

Fitzgerald finishes her career as a three-time D3Hoops.com All-American, a WBCA First-Team All-American and two-time WBCA All-American Honorable Mention, two-time D3Hoops.com All-Region III Outstanding Player of the Year, a four-time D3Hoops.com All-Region III First-Team selection, a D3Hoops.com All-Region III Rookie of the Year, a D3Hoops.com Preseason All-American, a two-time Jostens Trophy Finalist, a four-time All-SUNYAC First-Team pick, a three-time SUNYAC Player of the Year, a SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Year, a SUNYAC Rookie of the Year, a four-time SUNYAC All-Tournament Team select, a three-time SUNYAC Tournament MVP and three-time SUNYAC champion.
