Sarasota, FL— The State University of New York at New Paltz fell 5-2 against the New College of Florida Tuesday afternoon.
"Our first and second doubles matches were very tight affairs, with our number two match turning against us on one or two points" said coach Rob Bruley. "Our third doubles team pulled away to a very strong 6-1 victory. Our six single matches were extremely competitive. Krol and Brown-Vann dominated their matches and were able to get the win for fifth and sixth singles."
Doubles: Sam Ostrander and Justine Stanejko played first doubles falling 6-1. Patrycja Filonik and Olivia Kunz battled but fell 6-2. Nina Genzone and Angelica Gabriel won the lone doubles match for the Hawks 6-0.
Singles: Stanejko fell 6-3 in her first set and 6-3 in the second, playing first singles. Ostrander played second singles, falling 6-2 in the first set and 6-4 in the second. Sydney Sladicka played third singles falling 6-1 in the first set and 6-2 in her second. Filonik played fourth singles falling 6-1, and 6-0.
Lula Brown-Vann played fifth singles, winning her match in two 6-1 sets. Alex Krol also won her match, securing the win with two 6-0 sets.
The Hawks will be back on the courts Wednesday vs Southeastern University at 1p.m. in Lakeland, Florida.
