SUNY New Paltz Women’s Lacrosse Rolls to 25-6 Win Over Morrisville

Hawks score season-high 25 goals in rout of Mustangs to conclude regular season

Morrisville, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz had one last tune up before postseason play and ended with a 25-6 rout of hosting Morrisville Wednesday.

The Hawks (11-5 overall, 7-2 SUNYAC) already secured the No. 3 seed in the SUNYAC Tournament and had one last game left on their regular season schedule to up their overall and conference record and did so in convincing fashion. They scored a season-high 25 goals with 11 different goal scorers.

Allison Beattie and Lexi Atwater were the catalyst as the duo combined for 19 points. Beattie set a career-high 10 points on three goals and seven assists — the latter category ranking tied for second most in a single game program history. Meanwhile, Atwater totaled seven goals and two assists with her seven goals scored tying for third most. The 10 and nine points accumulated were tied for third and fourth most in single game program history, respectively.

Mia Baldinger also had a productive day, registering three goals and an assist to go along with a team-high three ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control. Atwater had a team-high six draw controls, while also adding two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Katie Picarello scored the game's first goal two minutes into the game before the Mustangs answered straight off the draw. SUNY New Paltz answered with five consecutive goals, capped by Atwater on a feed from Baldinger with nine minutes left in the period. Morrisville ended the stretch off the ensuing draw win, but the Hawks scored three unanswered to take a 9-2 advantage into the second quarter.

Picarello officially gave SUNY New Paltz a running clock with her second goal of the game with about 90 seconds remaining in the first half. The time continued to roll in the second half of play, as the Hawks rolled to a comfortable 20-point margin.

SUNY New Paltz's season resumes in the SUNYAC Quarterfinal Saturday, hosting No. 6 seed Buffalo State at 11 a.m. on North Turf Field. The Hawks defeated the Bengals on their home turf two weeks earlier, 14-7.
