Purchase, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz Baseball program split the day with Manhattanville University dropping the first game 4-0 and winning the second, 12-2. Both games were played seven innings.
Game One: Kiran Paingankar pitched six innings, striking out seven batters, letting up three hits and four runs.
Fabian Apicella singled through the right side in the top of the second. He stole second but was left on base. Apicella earned another single in the top of the seventh but was left on base again.
Game Two: Johnny McHugh started on the mound in Game 2. McHugh pitched three innings and struck out two batters, while letting up three hits and one walk.
The Hawks came to play in Game 2.
Tommy Poggi singled and advanced to second when
Garrett Grathwohl singled to left field. Both advanced on a wild pitch, but were left on base.
Louis Kaleb earned the first run of game two with a home run to left center.
Joe Richetti singled through the left side and then stole second but was left on base.
Tommy Benfer doubled in the top of the second.
Joe Scarabino singled up the middle and Benfer scored. Scarabino stole second. Richetti doubled to right field and brought home Scarabino for the third run of the game.
Danny DiEdwards pitched one inning, striking out two batters, letting up two hits and two runs.
Grathwohl walked and Apicella doubled down the left field line before a walk by Benfer loaded the bases. Both Apicella and Benfer advanced and Grathwohl scored on a wild pitch.
Joe Scarabino singled up the middle batting in both Apicella and Benfer. Kaleb singled up the right side and Scarabino advanced to third. Kaleb was caught stealing and Scarabino stole home for the Hawks seventh run.
Liam Ryan relieved DiEdwards on the mound after pitching two innings. Ryan let up two hits and stuck out four batters.
In the top of the seventh Apicella singled. Benfer singled down the right field line, Apicella advanced to third. Richetti singled up the middle earning two RBI after batting both Apicella and Benfer in.
Matt Sarni singled to the shortstop and Richetti advanced to third. Poggi doubled to left field batting in Richetti and Sarni. Kirkpatrick doubled to right center with Poggi scoring the 12th and final run of the game.
Tyler Lopez finished the game on the mound for SUNY New Paltz pitching the final inning, striking out two batters and letting up one walk.
The Hawks head to Oneonta for a conference play doubleheader starting at noon Tuesday.
