NEW PALTZ, NY – Junior forward Ashley McGough has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week following an extraordinary week of play, as announced by the conference office Monday.
McGough becomes the first player in program history to earn an NJAC Offensive Player of the Week accolade, serving as a vital piece of the Hawks' attack that helped lead SUNY New Paltz to an upset victory over No. 23 Ithaca.
The Hawks started the week with yet another ranked test, taking on host No. 9 Stevens in a midweek matchup. McGough helped create the Hawks' lone goal of the contest, tallying an assist in the effort.
McGough returned to her home turf Saturday with another ranked test at hand, hosting the nationally ranked Bombers of Ithaca College. The versatile junior helped lift her squad over its ranked foe, finding the back of the cage twice in under a minute during the second quarter to fuel the Hawks' 2-1 upset victory.
McGough and the Hawks return to action Wednesday, Sept. 23 to continue their non-conference slate, taking on the RPI Engineers in Troy, NY at 4 p.m.
