NEW PALTZ, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team earned its first win of the season Friday, using three different goal scorers to defeat SUNY Delhi, 3-1. 

Coming off a 2-2 road draw against St. Joseph's University-Long Island in its season opener, SUNY New Paltz wasted little time establishing itself in its first home contest of the year.  

SUNY New Paltz immediately put pressure on the Broncos and was rewarded just six minutes into the contest. After a Delhi foul set up the Hawks with a free kick outside the box, Dante Gulla delivered the ensuing service to Zindler, who finished into the upper left corner to put his team ahead, 1-0.  

The Hawks continued pushing forward following the opener. Zindler nearly doubled his tally two minutes later, forcing Delhi goalkeeper Ayden Grieve into a save before Tait had an attempt blocked. David Lamour and Brandon Dhanoolal also tested Grieve as SUNY New Paltz controlled the early chances.  

Delhi began to create opportunities of its own as the half progressed, but Austin Sheehan was up to the task in goal. The first year turned away three Broncos attempts during a six-minute stretch to preserve the advantage, including consecutive saves against Cristiano Lozier and Jared Daragjati.  

SUNY New Paltz eventually found its insurance in the 39th minute. Morris Marshall forced Grieve into another save before helping create the Hawks' second goal moments later, finding Tait for a finish into the upper left corner and a 2-0 advantage.  

The Hawks carried the two-goal cushion into halftime after out-shooting Delhi, 9-5, through the opening 45 minutes while putting six of their nine attempts on target. Sheehan made four first-half saves to keep the Broncos off the board. 

SUNY New Paltz picked up right where it left off after the break, needing just 62 seconds to extend its lead. Brandon Dhanoolal and Owen Joyce combined to set up Kieran Weber, who finished low to the left for his second goal in as many games and pushed the advantage to 3-0.  

The Broncos pulled one back in the 71st minute when Damien Barnes connected with Dayshar Herrara, who finished into the upper right corner to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Hawks' defense held from there, with goalkeeper Austin Sheehan making a late save in the 87th minute to help secure the victory.  

SUNY New Paltz finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots and a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. Zindler led the Hawks with three shots and two on frame, while Sheehan played all 90 minutes and finished with five saves.
