Stross played a major role in the Hawks’ impressive run this past week, which included an appearance in the first-ever UVC Championship Tournament. On the week, he hit at a .438 clip, landing 51 kills on 96 total attempts with just nine attack errors. He averaged 2.83 kills per set and also added two service aces. Defensively, the junior middle blocker boasted 16 total blocks (one block solo, 15 block assists), averaging 0.89 per set. This past week, New Paltz downed three nationally ranked teams and took second-ranked Nazareth College to five sets in the UVC championship match. During the Hawks’ dream run through the UVC Championship Tournament as the No. 7 seed, he hit .429 against second-seeded Medaille College, .571 against the third-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology and .312 against top-seeded Nazareth. New Paltz is now 20-12 overall (3-6 UVC) and will take on Stevens in the first round of the 2011 NECVA Championship Tournament on Friday.
